Which Is The Best Material For High Traffic Garden Pathways?

December 27, 2016 • Melibea Alva

Choosing the right material to make garden pathways is a real challenge. When you know it’s going to be a high traffic area, you have to make sure you pick something sturdy that lasts well in time. Simultaneously, you must choose something that looks good and matches well the surroundings.

Concrete pavers for outdoor walkways

Pavers can be purchased in any size you like. The shapes are also varied. You can choose one and create a beautiful pattern as the pavers interlock. You will be able to easily generate this, as the pieces have edge spacers and joints, so they can be placed together like a puzzle. There is no need to use mortar or anything similar.

Exposed aggregates

Exposed aggregate concrete types are so many and therefore you’ll find it easy to match one with your garden. These come in many colors, light, medium, dark, warm or cold, bold or subtle. Or, you may like the lovely effect of a “salt and pepper” pattern.

The cost of exposed aggregate concrete depends on its various origins (pebbles, crushed stone, shells etc.). It is called “exposed” because there is no top cement layer to cover the stones. Their surface is visible and all are flattened/leveled to create a smooth, perfectly walkable path. It’s affordable, durable and resilient, not to mention stylish and natural-looking.

Stamped concrete – the chameleonic solution

Stamped concrete has all the benefits of regular concrete: it’s easy to pour where needed, takes on any shape and lasts extremely well. Why do we say it’s chameleon-like? Because, if you use stamping technology, you can make the concrete surface look like other materials – for example natural stone. You can make it look like cut pavers joined together. You can make it resemble slate. While the appearance will be wonderfully deceiving, you’ll be paying a lot less than if you had when opting for the actual materials.

Subtle or colorful?

The choice depends on the effect you’re looking for. If you are hoping to create very discreet paths that let the focus be on the garden itself, then opt for materials in natural colors, preferably close to what the soil or compost look like. If it’s a rather playful garden and you want to draw attention to the landscaping, then you can select something contrasting or bold. Remember that aggregates come in many colors and the cement can be colored with different dyes.

Choose the best material as per your need considering the functionality and look it will bring on your pathways.

Cleaning You Need To Do At Least Once A Year

December 14, 2016 • Melibea Alva

Time is a tricky thing. We tend carry on with our daily lives and then suddenly before you know it is the end of the year. Time flies faster than we will ever realize. We forget to clean a lot of things in the house when this happens. We put off cleaning to the next month and when next month comes you it off again. This leads to it not being cleaned for more than a year. Well, there some things that you would have wished you cleaned earlier or at least once a year. Doing this helps increase the lifespan of what you are cleaning and also keeps it fresh and dry. Here are something you should clean at least once a year.

There is not a single day that passes without us going outside and coming back in to our houses. When we do this we usually brush our footwear on the doormat. Yet, some dirt will remain they will get in to the house carpets. There is a lot of other dirt that gets in to carpets from the air as well. At least once a year call for experts on carpet cleaning and do upholstery cleaning to the carpets.

If you do not have the appropriate equipment you may call for professional carpet cleaning Adelaide . It will be worth it to keep your carpet clean and fresh.

If the snow melts, it’s high time you check your gutters and drainage. You can start your cleaning by checking for leaks, blocks or even lose connections. If you spot any puddles of water near the foundation of your house it may lead to a bigger problem. Water seeking in to the foundation is not a good sign. The gutters would also need a good clean. A lot of dirt and dry leaves tend to get stuck up there.

The garage or if you have one, the basement attic. Garages and attics tend to get crowded and messy as months go by. You store a lot of things in hope you will take them out again soon and you simply forget that it even exist. The garage is the same too. You keep small boxes hoping you will take out the next week and weeks will turn into months and the place becomes unorganized. Clean it out, take out unwanted items that you won’t be using. If you have the time maybe even repaint it. Same goes with small places and room like closets. They may all need cleaning at least once a year.

Take a walk and look around the house. There might be more cleaning to do than you would think.
